China: Helping an insurer adopt new ways of designing products

Challenge

Our client wanted to offer innovative risk-management solutions to small-scale farmers in China. At the same time, they wanted to adopt customer-centric methods for innovating and testing products to drive innovation and success.

Solution

We helped the client engage with rural tea farmers to identify their lived challenges. Based on the results, the company built a customer journey leveraging our team’s microinsurance industry expertise. Next, we helped them ideate, prototype, and test new product concepts through microinsurance prototyping and human-centered design (HCD) techniques.

Results

Through interactive workshops with the client and other key stakeholders, we were able to build a prototype solution in just five days and get rapid feedback and validation from customers. The experience allowed the client to align the product concept with the market and introduced a new way of developing solutions that the insurer can apply for future opportunities.
