Microinsurance country strategy and industry training
Egypt: Developing a roadmap for microinsurance market development
Challenge
Our client, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, wanted to build a country-level microinsurance strategy for Egypt in partnership with the insurance regulator, government ministries, and the insurance industry. They also planned to develop and launch a microinsurance training curriculum for the industry.
Solution
We helped the client develop a roadmap for microinsurance development in Egypt, with an accompanying multi-stakeholder action plan. Next, we developed and implemented a microinsurance diploma program with the main insurance training institution, using a “training of trainers” model.
Results
A country-level working group on microinsurance adopted the strategy and action plan. The insurance regulator issued a directive opening up microinsurance distribution opportunities. Local trainers were empowered to deliver the diploma program, leading to successful graduation of the first cohort of students.
